Anderson Reaches Final Round at Northwest Nationals
Greg Anderson made it to the final round at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, Washington, nearly sweeping the Western Swing. Anderson, who won in Denver and Sonoma, was halted by Matt Harford.
“I felt that the stars were aligned for me today,” said Anderson, who was hoping for a repeat of 2004, when he last swept the Swing. “I really felt I could win, but that’s NHRA Pro Stock at its best right there. You never know what’s going to happen.”
In Round One of eliminations, Anderson defeated Fernando Cuadra Jr., (also powered by KB Racing) with a 6.555/209.72 run to Cuadra’s 6.596/208.49.
In Round Two against Erica Enders, Anderson got the win light, 6.574/209.79 to 6.591/205.76. In the semifinals, Anderson beat Alex Laughlin, 6.596/209.23 to 6.656/209.46.
In Anderson’s 156th final round of his career, Matt Hartford took the win on a holeshot. Hartford’s .023 second reaction time and 6.606/209.33 pass bested Anderson’s .054 RT and 6.596/210.31.
“I was starting to wonder if I still had what it takes to win out here,” said Anderson. “I answered that for myself. I know we can. I don’t fear the rest of the season. It’s going to be one heck of a Countdown.”
Anderson remains second in the Pro Stock Points Standings.
Jason Line qualified fourth and had top speed of the weekend during qualifying. In Round One of eliminations, Line’s 6.555/209.75 pass defeated Val Smeland’s tire smoking 19.54/41.98.
In Round Two, Line rattled the tires and shut the car down, getting an NT (No Time) for the round, giving Deric Kramer the win.
“We ran well this weekend, but didn’t do a great job racing,” said Line. “This class is so good, to put together four great runs to win a race is no small feat.”
Line is fifth in Pro Stock points.
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car remains 10th in the Funny Car points standings.
Wikerson’s race day was cut short in Round One of eliminations against Ron Capps. Although Wilk left the starting line first, he smoked the tires on the hot track giving Capps the win, 3.939/327.35 to Wilkerson’s 4.205/253.95 pass.
“My car moved over a little bit, when I dragged it back, the tires broke loose,” said Wilkerson. “We have a great car and I’m looking forward to the next race.”
