Anderson Reaches Final Round NHRA Virginia Nationals

Greg Anderson reached the final round at the NHRA Virginia Nationals in Dinwiddie, Virginia, his 153rd career final.

In Round One of eliminations, Anderson’s 6.610 second/209.43 MPH pass defeated Shane Tucker (-.099 foul) 7.883/115.30.

In Round Two, Anderson faced Erica Enders, taking the win with a 6.629/209.49 to Enders’ 6.668/206.95. In the semifinal round, Anderson beat Alex Laughlin, 6.609/209.52 to 6.670/207.40.

In the final, Anderson faced KB Racing teammate Bo Butner. Anderson experienced tire shake and Butner got the win, 6.599/209.01 to Anderson’s 6.607/210.18.

“We just missed it in the final round with my car. It spun and shook in low gear,” said Anderson. “We raced well on a hot racetrack—just had a little mistake and that’s what cost us. We’ll come back and try again in Chicago. I’m ready to go.”

Anderson moved up to fifth place in the Pro Stock points standings.

Jason Line was the Number One qualifier of the weekend, the 54th of his career.

In Round One, Line took the win over Val Smeland with a 6.615/209.43 pass to Smeland’s 6.733/205.94.  The round was Line’s 600th Pro Stock round win. Only two other Pro Stock drivers have more than 600 round wins, one of them being Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson.

“We had a great weekend, it’s nice to see our hard work paying off, said Line. “It feels great to be back to racing.”

Line is currently third in the Pro Stock points standings.

Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car debuted a striking new 40th anniversary Levi, Ray & Shoup paint job on their brand-new Ford Mustang body.

In Round One of eliminations, Wilkerson’s faced Shawn Langdon. Wilk’s 4.054/307.02 wasn’t enough, and Langdon took the win with a 4.039/310.27 pass.

“We made a nice run, but it just got down there to about 700 feet and just barely started spinning the tires,” said Wilkerson. “I tried to save it, but it dropped a couple of holes [cylinders] at the same time. We’re looking forward to Chicago.”

Wilkerson is currently eighth in the Funny Car points standings.

Bo Butner, Pro Stock driver and winner in the class, (his fourth Pro Stock win this season) also made the final round in the SAM Tech Factory Stock Showdown driving the Summit Racing Ford Racing Cobra Jet.

The SAM Tech Factory Stock Showdown is a specialty series that takes place at select NHRA events. It showcases drag-ready, factory-built cars produced by Ford, Chevy, and Dodge.

In Round One of eliminations, Butner defeated Kevin Skinner, 7.992/172.17 to 13.566/75.19.

Round Two had Butner up against Pete Gasko Jr. with Butner winning, 8.015/176.63 to 11.237/108.05. In the semifinals he defeated David Barton, 7.985/172.72 to 14.787/65.40.

The final round was close, but Drew Skillman took the win on the holeshot with a .028 reaction time and 7.990/170.69 pass to Butner’s .054 RT, 7.989/171.29.

“I feel good about my Summit Racing Cobra Jet,” said Butner. “It was a good day, and I’m ready for the next race.”
