Anderson Sets Top Speed at the NHRA Charlotte Four-Wide Nationals

On race day at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at Charlotte’s zMAX Dragway, Greg Anderson claimed top speed of the meet with a 212.93 MPH pass in Round One of eliminations.

Tanner Gray (6.534/211.30) and Chris McGaha 6.540/212.03, beat Anderson (6.541/212.93) and Kenny Delco (-.068 foul, 15.879/ 52.83).

Anderson, who missed advancing to Round Two of eliminations by less than a thousandth of a second said, “We just didn’t run fast enough, plain and simple. We were way too conservative. We’ve gotten bit the last three races by being too aggressive on Sunday—problem is we went too far the other way.”

Jason Line exited in the first round as well, although Line was third-quickest in his quad.

Erica Enders (6.500/212.56) and Drew Skillman (6.526/212.79) defeated Line (6.539/211.46) and Val Smeland (6.639/209.23).

“The engine tuner and the driver didn’t do a good job,” said Line, who handles both duties. “But some days are good, some days are not so good. Next week we’ll be looking for more of those good days in Atlanta.”

Bo Butner had the quickest time in his opening-round quad with a 6.544/212.33 pass, but exited in Round Two of eliminations.

Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang, qualified ninth with a solid 3.949/ 320.81 pass. He exited in Round One of eliminations after succumbing to tire smoke.

“That was not how we wanted this weekend to go, but we’ll do what we can before Atlanta, and hopefully go some rounds on Sunday there,” said Wilkerson.
