Greg Anderson Earns 96th #1 Qualifier Spot at NHRA SpringNationals
Team Summit Racing driver Greg Anderson earned his third consecutive low qualifier award of the season in Pro Stock at the NHRA SpringNationals in Houston. It was the 96th of his career.
Anderson had the low ET in Round One of eliminations with his 6.53 second/210.31 MPH pass, defeating Steve Graham 12.327/71.16. In Round Two, Anderson had top speed of the round with a 6.514/211.46 pass, taking the win over Alex Laughlin who experienced tire shake.
Anderson made it to the semifinals for the first time this season. Although he had top speed of race day, opponent Erica Enders took the win on the holeshot, 6.561/209.95 to Anderson’s 6.572/212.23.
“We still have work to do,” said Anderson, who moved up to second in the Pro Stock points. “We have a great qualifying car. It’s fast, but we have to make the right adjustments.”
In Round One of eliminations Jason Line left the starting line with a .021 second reaction time, but a case of wicked tire-shake ended Line’s day early, giving Rodger Brogdon the win with a 6.560/209.46 pass.
“Today was just not my day,” said Line. “You’ll have that, but the good news is that we have another race in just a few days in Charlotte. I’m looking forward to getting there and finding a little redemption.”
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Stroup Ford Shelby Mustang Funny Car, made it all the way to the semifinals in his best race day performance of the season.
In Round One of eliminations, Wilkerson defeated Shawn Langdon 4.351/283.85 to 7.418/93.67.
In Round Two, Wilkerson made a very powerful 3.972/308.71 pass to beat Matt Hagan’s 4.190/240.08.
Wilkerson made his first semifinal appearance this season against J.R. Todd, but unfortunately smoked the tires giving Todd the win, 4.01/309.06 to 6.604/145.45.
“We put different tires on between rounds, and we change the pressure based on the track temp,” Wilkerson explained. “The tires needed more pressure. But, I was happy with the car this weekend, and I feel like we’re going to have a good race in Charlotte.”
