Greg Anderson Makes Final Round, Qualifies #1 for the 100th Time!
Greg Anderson extended his Pro Stock points lead with a final-round finish at the 18th annual Fitzgerald USA NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. He also earned the Number One Qualifier award for the seventh time this season—the 100th of his career. With this final round appearance, Anderson tied Warren Johnson at 151 final rounds, the most of any Pro Stock driver in the category.
In Round One of eliminations, Anderson defeated Wally Stroupe with a
6.76 second/204.35 MPH pass over Stroupe’s 7.027/176.70. In Round Two, Anderson’s 6.723/204.73 run beat Vincent Nobile’s 6.755/204.29.
Anderson’s Round Three win with a 6.768/204.91 pass against Tanner Gray’s 6.764/205.19 put him in his second final round of the season.
In the final, Anderson came up short against Jeg Coughlin with a 6.741/205.07 pass to Coughlin’s 6.709/205.10.
“We have a good run going, and we’re definitely getting better,” said Anderson.
“We’ve got the points lead, but we’re a win waiting to happen. Now we go to Summit Motorsports Park for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals knowing what worked and what didn’t.”
Jason Line qualified sixth, had one of the quickest passes in Round One of eliminations, but saw an early exit against Erica Enders. Her 6.729/204.88 pass defeated Line’s 6.726/203.95.
“I feel like we’re headed in the right direction,” said Line. “Right now, we’re shifting our focus to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk. It’s Summit Racing’s 50th anniversary and we want rise to the occasion to thank them for all they’ve done for us.”
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car came up short in Round One of eliminations against Bob Tasca III, 4.183/289.82 to Tasca’s 4.133/303.09 pass.
Wilkerson and his team had overcome two engine failures over the course of four qualifying rounds. But heading into Sunday’s eliminations, Wilkerson was back on track.
“We didn’t have a good weekend,” Wilkerson said. “But we’re heading to the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, and we really want to do a good job there.”
