Greg Anderson Qualifies 2nd at AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals
Greg Anderson qualified second at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, the third race of the Countdown to the Championship.
Anderson’s 6.60 second/208.42 MPH pass earned him the Number Two spot of the weekend. In Round One of eliminations, he defeated Alan Prusiensk, 6.621/208.36 to 6.659/206.51.
In Round Two, Anderson faced Tanner Gray. Although both drivers had identical 6.636 second elapsed times at the finish stripe, Gray took the win by just .01 seconds. Gray’s .018 RT, 6.636/207.72 pass defeated Anderson’s .028 RT, 6.636/208.10.
“We had such a good car on Friday, and I really believed that we could have had the fastest car on Sunday, but we lost our way and didn’t make the right decisions,” said Anderson. “We’re going to go back and throw the engine on the dyno before Charlotte. We’re excited about these last three races.”
Anderson is currently fifth in the Pro Stock points.
Jason Line, the Number Three qualifier of the weekend, had his race day cut short in Round One of eliminations by Kenny Delco, 6.642/206.39 to 6.601/207.56.
“Needless to say, today did not go as planned,” said Line. “To say that I’m looking forward to racing next weekend in Charlotte would be an understatement.”
Line is seventh in the Pro Stock points standings.
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car started the Countdown 10th in the Funny Car points standings. He moved up to third thanks to great qualifying rounds.
In Round One of eliminations, Wilkerson defeated Jeff Diehl’s tire-smoking pass, 4.007/314.09 to 6.399/103.46. In Round Two, Wilk lost to Robert Hight, 3.990/319.60 to Hight’s 3.954/321.12.
“We just need to run a little bit quicker,” said Wilkerson. “We made a lot of nice runs and we moved up one spot in the points so we’re pretty excited about that. These last three races, it’s going to get crazy.”
