Jason Line Qualifies 2nd at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals
Jason Line had his best showing of the season by qualifying second at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
Line’s 6.621 second/208.78 MPH pass earned him the Number Two spot and was his best qualifying performance all year. In Round One of eliminations, he made the second-quickest pass of the round and the event to defeat Kenny Delco, 6.599/208.94 to Delco’s traction-troubled 9.362/99.63 pass.
In Round Two, Line had a .011 second reaction time to opponent Drew Skillman’s .020 RT. Despite that, Skillman narrowly took the win with a 6.614/209.14 pass over Line’s 6.625/208.59.
“We didn’t have the outcome we wanted today, but there were certainly good things that came out of the weekend,” said Line. “And we thank Summit Racing and Summit Motorsports Park for rolling out the red carpet for us.”
With only one qualifying session allotted due to rainy weather, Greg Anderson qualified seventh. In Round One of eliminations, Anderson had the third-quickest time of the round, but lost on the holeshot to Drew Skillman—6.603/209.07 to Skillman’s 6.607/209.65.
“It was a tough way to end the day, when all you wanted was put Summit Racing in the winner’s circle,” said Anderson. “We can’t thank them [Summit Racing] enough for their support. Seeing their smiles, even when we don’t have the best day, just makes us even more proud to be part of such a great organization.”
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Nitro Funny Car, was pleased to qualify in sixth place. Round One of eliminations saw Wilk’s race day end early in tire smoke. Wilkerson got the holeshot over Jack Beckman with a .061 RT, the best of the round. Unfortunately, Wilkerson’s tires overpowered the racing surface, giving Beckman the win, 9.812/93.13 to Beckman’s 4.047/319.07 pass.
“I’m very disappointed,” Wilkerson said. “But the good part of the weekend is we had a lot of folks from Summit Racing cheering us on—win or lose. It was fun having them around, we only wish we could have brought them to the winner’s circle.”
