Jason Line Wins the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals
Jason Line won his first race of the season at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. It was his 49th Pro Stock win and more importantly, his first win at his 'home' track.
“It was a good weekend,” said Line. “You always want to win in front of your friends and family, that makes it super special.”
In Round One of eliminations, Line defeated Wally Stroupe with a 6.589 second/208.78 MPH pass to Stroupe’s 6.714/205.38. In Round Two, Line faced Alex Laughlin, taking the win with a 6.583/209.26 to Laughlin’s 6.610/207.50.
In the semifinal round, Line was up against KB Racing teammate Deric Kramer. Kramer fouled out, handing the win to Line. His 6.590/209.94 pass was the quickest of the round.
In the final round, Line defeated Erica Enders, 6.597/209.10 to 6.604/207.59.
“Erica’s as good as there has ever been,” said Line. “My goal was to get close to her and hopefully outrun her. That happened today.”
This is the 16th consecutive season Line has had at least one Pro Stock win. It’s the longest winning streak of any active Pro driver.
“This is very special. I’m super excited,” said Line. “My dad is kind of a numbers guy, and he likes streaks. He makes a big deal out of the fact that I’ve won a race every year I’ve raced in Pro Stock. I know he’s proud.”
Line moves up to fourth place in the Pro Stock points standings.
Line's teammate Greg Anderson had an early day in Brainerd, but remains second in the Pro Stock points standings. In Round One of eliminations, his car pulled to the right and got out of the groove, giving Alex Laughlin the win, 6.865/205.94 to 8.695/106.29.
“We just didn’t really get a good run this weekend,” said Anderson. “But, it was great to see Jason finally get a win at Brainerd. It was a good weekend for Team Summit Racing.”
Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car had an early exit due to tire shake. Tommy Johnson Jr. got the win in Round One of eliminations with a 3.944/320.20 pass to Wilk’s 4.519/191.87.
“I think it’s a power-to-traction issue,” said Wilkerson. “I’m just going to have to go back and analyze what I’m doing right and wrong.”
Wilkerson remains 10th in the Funny Car points standings.
