Jimmy Alund Has Issues on Brand New Track in the FIA European Drag Racing Series

Jimmy Ålund continued his full season in both FIA Pro Mod and Pro Stock at the brand new race track in Kauhava, Finland. A new track can have its challenges, but the FHRA track crew worked around the clock to groom a good track. Their efforts paid off with very solid numbers during qualifying. Unfortunately, Ålund didn’t fare so well in either class.

Pro Mod
Ålund drove ‘The Old 51’ Chevrolet Business Coupe to qualify second with a 5.92 second, 236.63 MPH pass—the only time he crossed the finish line at full power during qualifying.

"We had issues with tire shake and hooking the car up,” Ålund said. “But we got that one 5.9 second run and it was enough."

Ålund won the first round of eliminations with a 5.99/235.23 pass, the quickest ET of the day. He met up with Peter Kunc in the semifinals. It was a touch-and-go pedalfest, but the transmission in The Old 51 did not hold up, ending Ålund’s weekend in Pro Mod. Even so, he moved up two places to fourth in the Pro Mod points standings.

"It was a weekend with lots of work to figure out the new track surface. We went a few rounds on the Sunday, which is very important for the championship battle,” Ålund said. “I thank the crew for all their hard work, and of course congratulate Peter Kunc to his first Pro Mod win in FIA competition”

Pro Stock
Qualifying was no easier in Pro Stock The Summit Racing Camaro made it to the finish line just once under full power, but the 6.60/210.54 pass was good enough to qualify first and also set the quickest elapsed time and top speed of the event.

Ålund made it to the semifinals during eliminations, meeting Number Five qualifier Simon Gustafsson. The Summit Racing Camaro left very strong with one of the quickest 60-foot times of the weekend, but Ålund ran into tire shake. Gustafsson won the round and and also the event.

"A tough weekend all in all, " Ålund said. "We picked up enough points to stay Number One in the points, and we’re are looking forward to the next race at Hockenheimring. And of course, congratulations to Simon Gustafsson for winning his first FIA event—well deserved and good for the sport.”

Next Race
Pro Mod will be on the menu at the NitrOlympX at the Hockenheimring, Hockenheim, Germany. The first round of qualifying starts Friday morning, August 16.

"As always, we can't wait to get there and put more rounds in the car in front of the record crowd that is the trademark of the NitrOlympx," Ålund said.
