Jimmy Alund Wins a Double Header at the NitrOlympx

Jimmy Ålund won it all in FIA European Drag Racing Pro Mod and Pro Stock at the NitrOlympx, held August 16-18 at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Wins in both classes at a single event has only happened once before, when Ålund did it at the 2019 Alastaro Nitro Nationals in Finland. The victories keep him on track for winning FIA championships in both classes.

Pro Modified
Ålund arrived at the Hockenheimring determined to make up for a semifinals exit at the Nitro Nationals in Kauhava, Finland back in mid-July. The ‘Old 51’ Chevrolet car ran quick and fast during qualifications and Ålund ended up in second, just .0003 seconds behind Number One qualifier Jan Ericsson. He also set a new personal top speed record of 248.89 MPH.

Ålund was quick and consistent during eliminations. His ETs were all in the low 5.9s, with just 0.048 seconds separating his lowest and highest times. The strong performance and consistency proved too tough for the competition, with Ålund winning the event.

A win is always great but this one had a silver lining.

"We picked up some very much needed points here. Our season hasn't been as good as we have wanted for winning another championship, but we went from fourth in points to second after this win," Ålund said. "The whole team did everything right. Thanks to Hockenheimring, it's a great track with the biggest crowds on the circuit."

Pro Stock
The Summit Racing Pro Stock Camaro ran quick and fast during qualifying, with Ålund entering eliminations as the Number One qualifier.

Ålund showed why he's the Pro Stock points leader on race day. He had the quickest and fastest car in each round; the difference between his quickest and slowest runs during eliminations was an astounding 0.009 seconds and 0.39 MPH.

"It's very hectic to race two cars of this caliber, but the teams are nothing short of fantastic,” Ålund said. “The competition is fierce to say the least, and with only two races left we need every single point we can gather. Lots of hard work all weekend and we are obviously very happy with the result."

Ålund leaves Hockenheim at the top of the Pro Stock points table, extending the lead to 125 points over second place Michael Malmgren.

Next Race
The next race is the Summit Racing Equipment Internationals at Tierp, Sweden. That race starts August 23 with qualifying for Pro Mod and Pro Stock.
