Jimmy Ålund Moves Up to Second Place in FIA European Pro Mod

After more than a six week break it was time for the NitrOlympx at Hockenheimring, Germany, race Number Four in the FIA Pro Mod championship series. Jimmy Ålund and The Old 51 team ran quick and fast during qualifications and ended up in the Number One qualifier heading into eliminations, setting a new personal best top speed of 243.28 MPH (391.53 km/h). Ålund also picked up the maximum amount of bonus points by running the quickest elapsed times in all qualifying sessions.

"What can I say? Everybody in the team did everything right and it all fell into place,” Ålund said. “We ran a tad soft in the first qualifying round to get a feel for the track but so did everyone else. The bonus points will be very important when we get to The European Finals at Santa Pod."

Ålund was quick and consistent during eliminations; his best and worst ETs were only 0.042 seconds apart, all in the low 5.9s. Ålund’s day ending in the semifinal matchup with reigning FIA Pro Mod champion Micke Gullqvist. Gullqvist took the win with a 5.89 second ET against Ålund’s 5.91. Gullqvist proceeded to win the event.

"Gullqvist is a tough and excellent racer,” Ålund said. “Of course I wanted to go all rounds topped off with a win, but in all it was a very good race weekend. The Old 51 crew has really got a good handle on all aspects of the car and we will keep pushing the envelope.”

Ålund and The Old 51 team leave Hockenheim in second place in the points standings, moving up one spot.

There are two races left in the FIA Pro Mod championship series—the Scandinavian Internationals at Tierp, Sweden and the European Finals at Santa Pod in the UK.
