Line and Anderson Continue to Dial In Summit Racing Camaros at Mile-High Nationals
The task of tuning a Pro Stock car requires a combination of precision, skill, and patience. The Summit Racing team, led by drivers Greg Anderson and Jason Line, managed to get two Pro Stock cars to consistently run within a few thousandths of each other at the Mopar NHRA Mile-High Nationals in Denver, Colorado.
Line and Anderson were just a thousandth of a second apart in Friday’s first qualifying session, and a mere .003 of a second apart in the second session. On Saturday morning, Anderson and Line ran against each other, with Line .005 second quicker (7.020/196.90 to 7.025.196.39). Line pulled ahead of his teammate in the final qualifying session, 7.008/196.10 to Anderson’s 7.023/195.39. However, Anderson ended qualifying in sixth place thanks to a 6.983/196.19 run from Friday’s session. Line was right behind him in seventh on the strength of a 6.986/196.70 pass also made on Friday.
Anderson met Vincent Nobile in Round One of eliminations. Anderson did his part at the starting line and launched with a remarkable .007-second reaction time to Nobile’s .010, but Nobile managed to claim the win by a slim .0062 of a second (21 inches), 7.022/196.07 to 7.031/194.04.
“On Friday during qualifying we ran very well,” said Anderson. “We thought if we could build on that, we’d really be in the thick of it. As the weekend went along, we sort of lost our way. The good news is that we were able to run well and run close to the top of the pack. We’re going to keep working to build on those high points, and hopefully we’ll be able to translate that into round wins and trophies very soon.”
Anderson is currently seventh in the Pro Stock points standings.
Line was paired with Rodger Brogdon in Round One of eliminations. His .029 second reaction time gave him just enough advantage to turn a slower ET into a win, 7.022/195.76 to Brogdon’s 7.016/196.02. Line’s day ended in Round Two against V.Gaines, who ran a 7.001/196.62 to Line’s 7.019/196.56.
“I don’t feel like I did a very good job as a driver today,” said Line. "We did win a round, but we wanted to go a lot farther than that with our Summit Racing Camaro. To tell you the truth, I’m glad we're going to Sonoma next week to race because it gives the KB Racing team the opportunity to continue working on our program.
“I do think that we hit on a couple of things here that showed us path to winning,” Line continued. “Hopefully, those things will parlay into some success next week and we can get one of the Summit Racing Chevy Camaros to the winner’s circle.”
Line is currently fifth in the Pro Stock points standings.
