Line and Anderson First and Second in Points Heading into Countdown to the Championship

Team Summit Racing Pro Stock drivers Jason Line and Greg Anderson remain first and second in the points standings after the 62nd Annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the final race of the NHRA regular season.

They were also chosen to be Honorary Starters by Chevrolet Performance. On race day they paraded down the track in brand new Chevrolet Camaros and were presented with plaques to commemorate the occasion.

Jason Line qualified fifth with a 6.593 second, 209.88 MPH pass. He defeated Aaron Strong in Round One of eliminations, 6.634/208.26 to 6.662/207.46. Line’s day ended in Round Two against Vincent Nobile. Line left the starting line -.003 of a second too early, red-lighting and giving the win to Nobile, 6.673/208.52 to 6.670/207.85.

“We used this race to try a couple of things that we normally wouldn’t try,” Line said. “We learned some things, some positive and some not so positive. Either way, they are data points. There is stuff you can take away from it.”

Greg Anderson qualified second with a 6.576/209.88 pass. Anderson had a perfect 0.000 second reaction time in Round One and defeated Jeg Coughlin Jr., 6.633/208.62 to 6.696/206.61. Reaction time cost Anderson in Round Two against Allen Johnson. Johnson got a .035 second jump at the starting line and never looked back, taking the win with a 6.683/207.21 to Anderson’s quicker 6.655/207.21.

“We’ve said that all year long that every race we go to we have to keep getting better or they are going to catch up to us,” Anderson said. “We have about 10 days of work ahead of us before Charlotte, and we did learn a lot of things this weekend and think we have a good direction. It’s not going to be easy, but we feel good about the playoffs.”

Anderson is second in the points standings heading into the NHRA Countdown to the Championship.

Tim Wilkerson qualified ninth with a 3.914/323.97 pass. He smoked the tires right off the starting line in Round One of eliminations, handing the win to Robert Hight, 6.683/207.21 to 3.931/326.56. Losing traction has been a problem plaguing Wilkerson.

“I really didn’t think the car would do what it did first round,” Wilkerson said. “We’re still a little disappointed on why it would have smoked the tires. We had less clutch on it, but there just wasn’t any traction in that spot we were at. We got some ideas—different tire pressure charts, places to put the car on the track, wheelie bar heights. We’re going to have to change something we’re doing.”

Wilkerson is ninth in the points standings heading into the Countdown to the Championship.

Doug Kalitta qualified sixth (3.726/321.81). He defeated Richie Crampton and Brittany Force in the first two rounds of eliminations, but lost to Steve Torrence in the semi-finals. Kalitta is currently second in the points standings.

“I feel pretty good heading into the Countdown,” Kalitta said. “ The guys have a good handle on the car, and I think we’re where we need to be at this point in the game.”

J.R. Todd qualified ninth (3.734/311.63). He defeated Morgan Lucas and Clay Millican in the first two rounds of eliminations, but lost to Tony Schumacher in the semi-finals. Todd is currently sixth in the points standings.

“We made two really good runs in the first two rounds. I really didn’t expect to go out there and smoke the tires like we did in the semi-finals,” Todd explained. “To bounce back like we did today is good momentum for the Countdown.”
