Line Gains Points Lead, Sets National ET Record In Charlotte

For Jason Line, the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals proved to be a very productive event. He finished the race with the Pro Stock points lead and the NHRA national record for elapsed time.

Line qualified second with a 6.481 second, 214.18 MPH pass. He went even quicker with a 6.455/214.48 pass in Round One of eliminations, the quickest run ever in NHRA Pro Stock competition. Line’s qualifying time backed up the 6.455 second run.

“It was a very smooth run, very nice,” Line said. “I actually shifted on time and did all of those things right.”

However, something went wrong with the Summit Racing Camaro’s engine as Line finished that record-setting run. There was little time to celebrate as the Summit Racing crew had to hustle to make the call for Round Two. Despite the team’s best efforts, Line slowed to a 9.255. He and Jimmy Alund missed the cut, while Larry Morgan and Vincent Nobile moved ahead to the final round.

"It was a freak thing that set off a series of bad events,” Line explained. “We ended up being late for the next run with no chance to warm up the engine. I knew something was wrong so I didn’t want to keep going.”

“The bottom line is that Team Summit leaves here with the fastest Pro Stocker on the planet, so that feels really good. Our Summit Racing team worked really hard, and we have good power. We just need to do a little refining. We have really good folks behind us, and it feels good to have something to be proud of.”

Anderson Makes Four-Wide Final, Moves into Third Place in Points
Greg Anderson added to his zMAX Dragway record with another final round finish, resetting personal records along the way.

Anderson ended a long drought when he won two weeks ago in Gainesville, and showed off that Team Summit power by qualifying fourth with a 6.502/213.64 pass. It only got better. Anderson clocked a 6.467/215.13 in Round One of eliminations, shattering both ends of his career best numbers. Anderson and Jonathan Gray advanced to Round Two over Allen Johnson and V. Gaines.

In Round Two, Anderson cut a .032 second reaction time and tripped the win light with a stout 6.478/215.48. That pass was the second fastest in Pro Stock history and reset the zMAX Dragway track record.

In his 118th career final round and fourth at zMAX Dragway, Anderson cut a .024 second reaction time, but Larry Morgan was quicker still and made it to the finish line first with a 6.464/214.52 to Anderson’s 6.475/214.93. Jonathan Gray and Vincent Nobile were third and fourth respectively with 6.498/214.72 and 6.508/214.25 runs.

“To be first in Gainesville two weeks ago and second this week, that makes me pretty darn happy,” said Anderson. “The next step is to get back to victory circle, and I’ve got a car that can do it now. I was happy coming here, and I’m happy leaving. It’s fun racing again. This little red Chevy Camaro is going to be fast.”

Anderson is currently third in the Pro Stock points standings.
