Line Retains Points Lead after Midwest Nationals

Jason Line remains first in the Pro Stock points standings after the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Summit Racing teammate, Greg Anderson, moved up one position higher in the standings.

In Round One of eliminations Line faced Steve Graham. Graham fouled out, while Line raced ahead for a 6.592 second/209.14 MPH win that set top speed of the round.

In Round Two against Matt Hartford, Line was first to launch but his tires broke loose, giving Hartford the win 6.644/207.37 to Line’s 9.100/103.58 run.

“We didn’t have the outcome we wanted today and hopefully we didn’t lose too much momentum.”

Greg Anderson had top speed of the weekend, and qualified fourth. In Round One of eliminations, Anderson’s 6.601/207.78 pass defeated Fernando Cuadra Jr.’s 6.637/208.30.

In Round Two, Anderson’s 6.672/209.56 wasn’t enough to beat Chris McGaha’s 6.658/207.59 run.

“We took a step forward in qualifying, but on race day took another step back. It’s frustrating,” said Anderson. “We have four races left this year, and we’re going to do everything we can to get this car back into the winner’s circle.”

Anderson is currently seventh in the Pro Stock points standings.

Tim Wilkerson, driver of the Levi, Ray and Shoup Ford Shelby Mustang Nitro Funny Car faced a setback during the final round of qualifying when the engine blew up and severely damaged the car body. But Wilkerson and his team got down to the hard work of putting the car back together.

Wilkerson was ready on race day and made one of the quickest passes of Round One of eliminations against Jonnie Lindberg. Wilkerson’s 3.915/325.14 pass defeated Lindberg’s tire-smoking 5.162/158.52.

In Round Two, Wilkerson was first off the line, but Bob Tasca got the win 3.947/321.19 to Wilk’s 4.012/315.56.

“I’m so proud of my team,” said Wilkerson. “Everybody did what they were supposed to do and made the car perfect. Just catching up to that racetrack was the problem all weekend long, but we’re looking forward to the next race.”

Wilkerson is currently 10th in the Funny Car points standings.
