Project Prestone Monte Carlo Sells for $100,000 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction

Color us surprised.

Barrett-Jackson’s Project Prestone 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe sold for a whopping $100,00 at the auction house’s 47th annual Scottsdale, Arizona auction. The proceeds will benefit the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), a Phoenix, Arizona-based non-profit medical research institute dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research to unravel the genetic components of common and complex diseases including cancer, neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood disorders.

After the sale, the winning bidder and his son made very positive comments about the build and charity, saying Barrett-Jackson is known for the best cars and best charities, and that they wanted to support the efforts to fight cancer.

The car got a complete makeover by Barrett-Jackson’s Showroom Division with support from Prestone, Summit Racing, and other companies. The transformed Monte is now a 415 horsepower Pro Touring hero—here are some of the major upgrades:
• BluePrint Engines 383 stroker small block Chevy with Edlebrock EFI, 430 horsepower
• 700R-4 automatic transmission modified by Hughes Performance
• Detroit Speed G-body Speed 2 front and Speed 3 rear coil-over suspension
• Rebuilt 10-bolt rear axle with Summit Racing 3.73 gears and Moser axle shafts
• Custom-made MagnaFlow exhaust system with catalytic converters
• Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes
• Forgeline GA3 wheels and BFGoodrich Sport Comp 2 tires
• Griffin Performance Fit aluminum radiator
• Sherwin-Williams basecoat/clearcoat black paint
• New black interior

We’ll be posting complete Project Prestone Monte Carlo Parts Combos on the Summit Racing web site soon—we’ll let you know when they’re available, we promise.

You can see the Monte Carlo build videos and the car on the auction block at the Barrett-Jackson web site.
