Rutledge Wood's LS Porsche Ready (?) for the Hot Rod Power Tour

Rutledge Wood’s LS3-powered Porsche 911 Carrera should be just about ready for the Hot Rod Power Tour, which starts June 8 at ZMAX Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina and ends June 14 at Summit Racing Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

Haven’t heard about this one? Basically, it’s a 1986 911 Carrera that was gutted and then stuffed with a Chevrolet Performance LS3 making 525 horsepower and attached to a Porsche G50 transaxle. On the outside Audi Sonoma Green paint covers an RWB widebody kit installed by RWB founder Akira Nakai. That's him in the photo; apparently it was a big job.

When we spoke with Rutledge on Monday, the Porsche was about 97.3% done by our guesstimate.

“The team at the Kenwood Rod Shop is thrashing away getting everything on the RWB 911 project ready,” he told us. “Wiring is complete on the engine side of things, and that GM Performance LS3 from Summit Racing is purring like a kitten! The wheels and tires are on, the Brembo brakes have been bled, the clutch is bled and ready...all in all, it’s really looking good.”

“Richard Waitas from Magnaflow come down last week and built a totally custom exhaust for the car,” Rutledge continued. “He made a beautiful stainless exhaust using Magnaflow shorty headers with two 6 inch mufflers on either side. There is a full electric cut out package with pipes on it too, so we can really open it up when the need arises.”

“The interior goes in soon and hopefully a radio too! It’s going to be crazy, but I know it’s going to be awesome!”

We’re waiting to hear from Mr. Wood to find out if he’s ready to Power Tour, considering it starts tomorrow and all. We sure hope so; we’ll post an update if we here from Rutledge.

In the meantime, take a few to read these stories on RWB Porsche posted on the Hot Rod and Super Street Magazine websites. They really give you a good look at what it takes to install an RWB kit, even with creator Akira Nakai handing the job himself.
