Summit Racing Camaros Dominate the NHRA Winternationals
Greg Anderson raised the first Pro Stock Wally of the 2016 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series at the 56th annual Circle K NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California.
“I feel honored to be the recipient of the first trophy in the fuel-injected Pro Stock era, and maybe we can get a few more this year,” said Anderson. “You can’t have an advantage on the field if you don’t start with one in the shop, and we had one.”
In fact, the Summit Racing Chevy Camaros of Anderson and KB Racing teammate Jason Line dominated the Pro Stock class all weekend. Anderson qualified Number One with a 6.585 second, 209.62 MPH pass—a run that earned Anderson Low ET honors. Line was close behind in the Number Two spot with a 6.592/210.14 blast down the Auto Club Raceway track.
Anderson dominated eliminations as well. In Round One, Anderson bested Matt Hartford’s 6.778/206.54 with a stellar 6.593/208.14. Jeg Coughlin fouled-out in round two, automatically sending Anderson to a semi-finals matchup against Drew Skillman. Once again, Anderson turned on the win light with a 6.622/207.94 to defeat Skillman’s 6.651/208.91 and earn a place in the final round.
Jason Line was besting his competitors as well. Line got the jump on V. Gaines in Round One and drove to an easy win, 6.606/210.21 to 6.694/208.26. Line took a bye run in Round Two when Allen Johnson’s car broke on the starting line. Line drilled the tree in the semi-finals to beat Bo Butner, 6.624/209.46 to 6.653/209.26.
That made the final round an all-Summit Racing affair. Anderson won the race on a holeshot, beating Line’s quicker and faster 6.609/209.82 with a 6.617/207.85.
“The entire Summit Racing/KB Racing team had a great day,” said Anderson. “I just can’t tell you how proud I am of the job this team has done over the last two months. It’s been a lot of hard work and we thank everyone who supports us.”
Line was also happy with the performance of his team.
“It was a good race,” said Line. “I think that’s what people come to watch. It was just a great weekend for the whole team. Greg wins this battle and gets bragging rights back at the shop, so I have to live with that for a while.”
Anderson and Line are currently first and second in the Pro Stock points standings, respectively.
