Summit Racing Gets Doused in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

This ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is getting to be a thing. For the three of you that haven't heard about it, The Challenge came about to promote awareness of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease after the famous New York Yankee baseball player who contracted it in the 1930s, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord.

The Challenge rules are pretty simple. Somebody issues a challenge to someone else  Within 24 hours, the challenged person(s) has to post a video of themselves accepting the challenge, then dumping a container of ice water over their head(s). If they don't, they are required to make a donation to the ALS Association. Many people do the ice bucket deal and make a donation as well.

It sounds silly, but the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has really made a difference. Per Wikipedia:
"According to The New York Times people shared more than 1.2 million videos on Facebook between June 1 and August 13 2014 and mentioned the phenomenon more than 2.2 million times on Twitter since July 29...The New York Times reported that the ALS Association had received $41.8 million in donations from July 29 through August 21. More than 739,000 new donors have given money to the association."

And that's where Summit Racing comes in. Our good friend Rutledge Wood issued an ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to us. We of course accepted, and duly posted our video of 11 Summit Racing employees--volunteers all--on YouTube. We also made a donation to the ALS Association. You can watch the video here.

Since calling out other folks to do the Ice Bucket Challenge is part of the game, we have called out the stars of the Discovery Channel's Fat N' Furious: Rolling Thunder TV show, BIGFOOT Monster Truck driver Ron Bachmann, and the crew at Summit Racing Motorsports Park to step up and dump ice water all over themselves.

The Fat N' Furious guys have already stepped up to the plate--they'll be doing their Ice Bucket Challenge at Summit Racing's Retail Superstore in Tallmadge very soon. We're sure Mr. Bachmann and Summit Racing Motorsports Park will step up to the plate as well. We'll let you know when they do.
