The Top 10 Finalists Chosen for Horsepower Wars 10K Shootout
Our friends at Power Automedia are putting on a little racing show called Horsepower Wars. In case you haven't heard of it, Horsepower Wars features fierce competition between rival teams in one of four venues: drag racing, road course, engine dyno, and chassis dyno. Now that's good, clean All-American fun.
One of those competitions is the $10K Drag Shootout. Three teams will be chosen to compete, plus a 'Dream Team' of people chosen by an expert drag racing panel. Each team will get $3,000 to buy a car, a $7,000 parts budget courtesy of Summit Racing, and 10 days to build that car.
The teams will face off at the 'Shakedown at the Summit' event held in October at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. The team with the quickest three-run average wins and gets to keep their car. The other three cars will be given away to lucky Power Automedia readers who guess closest to each car's actual elapsed time.
The teams have been whittled down to the final nine. You can read about each team on the Horsepower Wars website, and even give your two cents about which teams should compete and which should go home.
As for the Dream Team, Horsepower Wars is currently accepting applications from--well, guys like you. The team will consist of a driver, fabricator, engine builder, drivetrain expert, and mechanic/tuner. If you think you have what it takes to build and race a car with people you've never met, seize the day and fill out this application form by May 7, 2018. You can't win if you don't enter.
If drag racing isn't your game, the Horsepower Wars universe has other competitions that should strike your fancy:
Pony Wars
The classic Mustang vs. Camaro showdown, Pony Wars give 2017 models of each car to two teams. Phase One gives five grand to each team for bolt-on upgrades, then pits the cars against each other on the chassis dyno, road course, and the drag strip. Phase Two gives each team another $10,000 for a power adder of their choice, then runs the cars through the same trials again for all the marbles. Pony Wars is currently under way--get up to speed here.
Coyote vs. LS Showdown
It's another Ford vs. Chevy duel, this time pitting the Blue Oval's 5.0L Coyote against the General's LS3. Each team gets 10 grand to build an engine using the power adder of their choice. Then it's off to the dyno room to see which engine will reign supreme.
This is actually the second time Coyote and LS have locked horns. Power Automedia's EngineLabs built naturally aspirated versions of these engines on a $9.999.00 budget and put them on the dyno. You can see the builds--and the winner--in these Power Automedia YouTube videos:

True Street Horsepower Dyno Showdown
Ten guys compete for honor and glory with rear-world, street-driven cars that make big horsepower on pump gas. The rules are simple:
• Drive 100 miles without breaking down. Only stops allowed are for fuel
• Strap on the chassis dyno and hope you make more power than everyone else--no tuning or parts swapping allowed
We will be posting updates and video for all of the Horsepower Wars competition on our OnAllCylinders blog. Check back often for the latest news flashes!
