4 Square Antennas - Survive Hurricane Sandy

The following e-mail came in from Tariq, N2QV, he wanted to share the video he took of damage done when Hurricane Sandy came through New York. A very large tree in the center of his Transmit 4-Square system came crashing down, but the four DX Engineering vertical antennas survived.

Subject: N2QV sent you a video: "4 Square Antennas Post-Hurricane Sandy"

You don't know me but I'm a big fan of DX Engineering, and an even bigger fan, post Hurricane Sandy.

Together with the guys at Hudson Valley Towers, I put up a DX Engineering 80m Transmit 4-Square this summer using the no-guy high quality verticals - DXE-7580FS-VA-2.

Hurricane Sandy just came through and took down a MASSIVE tree that was alive -- 90 MPH winds -- crashing it to the ground. Unfortunately it had my phasing box attached to it and so one SO-239 ripped out for one of the antennas.

But, as the video shows, each of the four DX Engineering verticals stand tall as if nothing happened. Really incredible. So when DX Engineering says these un-guyed antennas can withstand 90 MPH winds it is absolutely true as the video confirms.

Feel free to use the (poor quality) video.
