Overview
DX Engineering Receive Eight Circle V3 Complete Array Systems, DXE-R8C-SYS-V3, dramatically improve reception of weak distant signals with unparalleled rejection of extraneous signals and noise. This eight-direction switchable array uses a special end-fire/broadside combination of eight short receiving vertical elements, ground-mounted, arranged in a circle to cover multiple HF Amateur bands, such as 160, 80 and 40 meters, using time delay phasing. The resulting narrow directional receiving pattern is superior to standard or short Beverage antennas, Reversible Beverage systems and typical two, three, or four element arrays. This receive array of short vertical elements limits interfering signals and noise to achieve dramatically superior weak signal reception as compared to full size transmitting antennas and arrays. With the appropriate location and spacing of eight stealthy 8.5 ft. (2.6m) vertical elements, the Receive Eight Circle Complete Array System is the ultimate high performance, directional receive antenna for HF Amateur, SWL, or AM DXing.
DX Engineering Receive Eight Circle Arrays offer the best Low Band selectable directional receiving performance, comparable to eight very long phased beverages while using far less land area. The system includes the DXE-RCA8C-1 Receive Eight Circle Array Controller and eight Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1, featuring the updated DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Units. They are now packed in a 38 x 5 x 5 in. (965 x 127 x 127mm) carton for significantly reduced shipping cost. Three sections of 3 ft. (914mm) aluminum tubing, 0.500, 0.375 and 0.250 in. (12.70, 9.53 and 6.35mm) OD, assemble to a height of only 8.5 ft. (2.6m), so each self-supporting element is truly stealthy. Each element simply mounts inches above the earth onto a ground rod. This Complete Array System also includes the directional Control Console, two 1,000 ft. (305m) rolls of RG6U coax cable, all cable prep tools, connectors and hardware for construction of the array. Only the required ground rods and the appropriate length of control cable need to be purchased separately. - - The RCA8C-1 Receive Eight Circle Array Controller can be mounted to a customer supplied galvanized steel pipe driven into the ground at the center of the array. The integral mounting bracket is pre-drilled to accommodate up to a 2 inch (50.8mm) OD pipe using the included DXE-SSVC-2P Stainless Steel V-Bolt Saddle Clamp for 1" to 2" (25.4 to 50.8mm) OD pipe. An optional DXE-CAVS-1P V-Bolt Saddle clamp can be used for pipe from 3/4" to 1-3/4" inches (19.1 to 44.4mm) OD. The controller can also be mounted on a sturdy wooden post if provision for grounding the RCA8C-1 unit has been made.
Note: JTL-12555 Jet-Lube SS-30 Anti-Seize should be used on all clamps, bolts and stainless steel threaded hardware to prevent galling and to ensure proper tightening.
Advantages of this DX Engineering Receive Eight Circle Antenna System over other antennas and arrays:
· W8JI design DXE-RCA8C-1 Eight Circle Array Controller with stable, narrow and low-angle pattern
· Directional performance varies with circle radius and frequency
· Includes eight DXE-RSEAV-1 Receive Short Element Active Vertical antennas with stealthy 8.5 foot (2.6m) aluminum elements and redesigned DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Units with excellent Third Order Intercept (TOI) and internally set adjustable gain
· System covers a single band or multiple Amateur Bands, typically 160, 80 and 40 meters; it can be functional from 450 kHz to 30 MHz.
· Excellent directivity in a smaller space than phased Beverages for better signal-to-noise ratio than transmit arrays and other receive arrays
· Reduced susceptibility to high angle signals compared to phased Beverage antennas, as well as superior performance over EWE, Flag, Pennant and K9AY antennas.
· Switching console selects one of eight 45° spaced directions
· Directivity over a very wide frequency range
· Less physical space and less maintenance required than phased Beverage antenna arrays
· Enhanced relay contact reliability
· Low current DC powered control console allows system operation without AC power mains
This DXE-R8C-SYS-V3 is a complete Receive Eight Circle V3 Array Package that can be installed as a Mono-Band or Multi-Band system for 160 through 40 meters using a recommended or alternative array radius for the frequency coverage desired.
Eight Circle Layout
In typical soils, each of the eight DXE-RSEAV-1 Active Elements work well with just a single copper or copper-clad ground rod, 4 to 6’ length by 5/8” or 3/4" (1.2 to 1.8m by 15.9 or 19mm) OD, used as the ground mount. A separate mounting pipe can be used with optional clamps as the element ground if the pipe is an adequate ground. In lower soil conductivity areas, improve performance with multiple ground rods spaced a few feet apart. In rocky or sandy soils eight ground radials, each 12 to 15 feet (3.7 to 4.6m) can serve in the place of the ground rod. For best pattern and performance, it is very important for each active antenna in the array to have an identical ground system.
In racing, the performance of the vehicle is, in large part, determined by the capabilities of the tires, "where the rubber meets the road." In radio, especially to take advantage of elite-class transceivers, but for any level of Amateur Radio, performance of the receiver is dictated by the receiving capabilities of the antenna system, "where the antenna meets the air." Build this exceptionally effective, electronically rotatable, stationary receive antenna that lets you hear the DX that cannot be heard on a transmit antenna. Pull the weak signals out of the noise with an antenna that can help make your station one of the best. Order the DX Engineering Receive Eight Circle V3 Complete Array System.
