West Mountain Radio Super PWRgate Battery Backup Systems

West Mountain Radio Super PWRgate PG40SC Battery Backup Systems are built to handle the job, with two 80 ampere Schottky diodes configured as an OR-Gate to isolate and automatically switch your equipment between power supply and battery operation. Capable of safely handling a continuous 40 amperes on almost any 12 Vdc power supply and battery combination, they make a true solid-state uninterruptible power supply (UPS). With a built-in four-stage, high-power, current limit selectable smart battery charger, Super PWRgate Battery Backup Systems are ideal for the ham shack, emergency communications systems (EmComm), or anywhere DC power is crucial. Connected equipment will instantly switch to battery power during an AC power blackout or power supply failure.

Super PWRgate PG40SC Battery Backup Systems are known as Package 1, with interconnecting cables for the power supply and battery, containing these four items:
--Super PWRgate PG40S Unit
--1 pair of 30A Powerpole connectors
--Power Supply Cable, Powerpole connectors to 1/4 in. ring terminals, 10 gauge, 6 ft.
--Fused Battery Cable, Powerpole connectors to 3/8 in. (Positive) and 5/16 in. (Negative) Ring Terminals, 10 gauge, 6 ft.

Super PWRgate PG40SC systems eliminate the danger of connecting a power supply directly across a battery, which can damage many power supplies. Using your power supply and a PWRgate also avoids introducing hum and RF interference that is caused by most lead-acid battery chargers. Furthermore, most lead-acid battery chargers are designed for flooded lead-acid marine or automotive batteries, and are inappropriate for charging sealed lead-acid gel cells and AGM type batteries. PG40SC systems can extend the life span of a these batteries, as compared to using a flooded lead- acid charger, with selectable current rates of 1, 4, 7 or 10 amperes to match your battery rating.

Super PWRgate PG40SC systems are very useful in the ham shack, and even more useful in a repeater installation. Communication equipment will remain operative during AC power blackouts and power supply failures. Power supplies and batteries can be swapped out while equipment continues to be powered and without glitches. Additionally, with a power supply a PWRgate may be used solely as a permanently installed battery charger or configured to run a radio station directly from the battery.
