DX Engineering Ferrite

DX Engineering Ferrites are partially magnetic metal and ceramic mixes available in a variety of forms, including toroid core, bead type and plastic-covered split-bead ferrite called snap-beads. They are used in a myriad of RF suppression applications to mitigate RFI (radio frequency interference) as well as to reduce pulse and other types of RF noise interference. Special ferrites are used for experimentation and electronic circuit building and for making transformers, RF chokes and antenna baluns. The variations of magnetic and non-magnetic metals and non-metal ceramics used to make ferrites are called "Mixes" and each has different radio frequency properties or ranges. Therefore, different mix number ferrites are typically used for different applications within those ranges, determined by decades of experiments by engineers and applications by hams. Each Mix has been assigned a color code to help identify the ferrite, so numerical labeling is not used on the metal. Color coded ferrite can be identified long after the numbered package is discarded or has disintegrated with time. How do they work? Simply use snap-on beads on a cable or wire. An even more effective choke takes a few to several turns of a wire or cable through and around a ferrite snap-on bead or toroid core. This mitigates RFI to, or from, the connected RF noise producing or noise affected electronic device. The results can be very surprising. Solving noise and RFI can be frustrating. Due to the nature of RF and noise interference suppression; the techniques of appropriate use of ferrites can take a bit of trial and error, but are often the best solution for a difficult problem. Use DX Engineering Ferrite for an incredible range of electronic circuits, noise abatement and RF suppression projects. The details of DX Engineering Ferrite mixes and types appear in each product description. Sizes and applications are discussed in "More Details" and in the literature available at the "Documentation" tab of each of these products.

DX Engineering Premium Antenna Wire

DX Engineering Premium Antenna Wire helps you achieve top performance and long, trouble-free operation at a very reasonable cost. This PVC-insulated 14 AWG stranded copper wire is comprised of 19 strands of 27 AWG solid copper. Its relaxed PVC insulation is UV-resistant and rolls out easily, unlike wire that is commonly available at "big-box" stores, which coils and kinks. Our antenna wire is well worth its price for its features, especially for ease in handling. Over a decade of successful wire antenna installations have proven this insulated copper wire is up to the task. Conservatively rated at 92.5 lbs. breaking strength, this wire is strong enough for virtually every wire antenna application. Suggested installation includes supporting the feedpoint to properly handle the weight of the feedline, and balun if used, so that the wires only need to support themselves. When placed under extreme stress, this copper wire will stretch before breaking, allowing it to serve in a longer lasting installation for wire antennas of almost any style. Available in several pre-cut coiled lengths as well as on 500 and 1,000 ft. rolls, UV-resistant black insulated 14 AWG stranded copper DX Engineering Antenna Wire lasts longer than bare wire exposed to the elements. Use it with confidence for your wire antenna projects and get on the air!

DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors

The DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors shown here include two-part, silver-plated PL-259 and Type-N connectors designed to be crimped or soldered to the shield and soldered to the center conductor. These connectors deliver excellent performance for HF, VHF, and UHF applications. DX Engineering's PL-259 and Type-N connectors feature silver-plated brass throughout the outer and inner conductors and use PTFE dielectric—the best RF insulator—for very low loss and high electrical breakdown strength. Also available are DX Engineering Silver-Plated Reducers, which adapt standard solder-type PL-259 and Type-N connectors for use with single-shield RG-8X and RG-58U coaxial cables. While many types and grades of coaxial RF connectors are offered on the market, DX Engineering provides only top-quality connectors with silver-plated brass bodies and PTFE dielectric. These two-part solder-style connectors fit RG-213, RG-8U, RG-8X/LMR240 and other standard 0.405 in. single-braid shield coaxial cables intended for soldering*—but not 400MAX or LMR-400 double-shield cables. These solder-shield and solder-center connectors are the preferred choice for many Amateur Radio operators installing single-braid shield coaxial cables. Order your DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors and Reducers today! *NOTE: To prevent noise issues, modern engineering practice has determined that double shield cables that have one foil and one braid should not be soldered to the braid, including DXE-400MAX and LMR-400 style cables. Those cables should be terminated with crimp shield or clamp shield style connectors, also available from DX Engineering.

DX Engineering Aluminum Tubing

DX Engineering High-Strength Aluminum Tubes are ideal for your antenna building projects. It is made available in sizes that fit into and over the next, with close tolerances specifically designed for strength when joined and overlapping only by a few to several inches, to build Yagi, Moxon or vertical antenna elements. NOTE: This tubing is NOT intended for each size to telescope completely into the full length of the next; it cannot be used for telescopic mast building. DX Engineering aluminum tubing is manufactured to very close tolerances. This provides the greatest amount of surface contact between nesting tubes for mechanical and electrical stability. Due to the close tolerance, any burrs, dirt, grit or other foreign material, as well as dents, dings and unseen bending or crushing suffered during shipment will cause binding that prevents this aluminum tubing from fully nesting. 6063-T832 seamless drawn aluminum tubing is available in 3, 6 and 12 ft. lengths. 6063-T832 tubing provides good resistance to general corrosion, including stress corrosion cracking, and an excellent surface appearance. Use a series of 3 ft. lengths to build an element that tapers more quickly for lower wind-resistance applications. Use a series of 6 ft. lengths to make an element that tapers more slowly for greater strength and bandwidth. The 12 ft. lengths are great for HF Yagi construction. Most sizes (except 12 ft.) are available slit on one end for use with DX Engineering stainless steel element clamps. If un-slit ends are required for your applications, merely insert the slit end into the next larger size in the stack and use your own attachment method. 6063-T832 tubing features a 0.058 in. wall thickness and is available in 1/8 in. increments from 3/8 in. to 2-1/8 in. O.D. 3003-H14 drawn aluminum tubing features a 0.035 inch wall thickness and a 1/4 inch outside diameter. Each piece is supplied with non slit ends and is available in both 3 foot and 6 foot lengths, making them ideal for your antenna building projects. If your setup requires maximum strength at very long assembly lengths, then choose DX Engineering 6061-T8 tubing. This heavy-duty version features a 0.120 in. wall thickness and is available in 1/4 in. increments from 1-1/2 in. to 3 in. O.D. Packaged shipments of 6 ft. tubing have oversize shipping fees, regardless of the number of 6 ft. pieces. Therefore, order more 6 ft. pieces to spread oversize fees over more tubing for a more cost effective shipment. Tubing that is 12 ft. long MUST be shipped by truck freight. If you need many pieces of the same size in a 12 ft. tube length, then buying DX Engineering High-Strength Aluminum Tubing Bundles (elsewhere in our catalog) maximizes the economy of scale for your shipping costs. DX Engineering 75 ohm Coaxial Lightning Surge Protectors

DX Engineering 75 ohm Coaxial Lightning Surge Protectors feature a unique design that is impedance-matched to 75 ohms and are virtually transparent to all analog or digital bi-directional signals from DC to 1.0 GHz. Manufactured by Tii Network Technologies for DX Engineering, their patented proprietary coaxial gas tube surge protectors are equipped with an integral failshort mechanism for a power-cross condition, which shunts both the coaxial cables' center conductor and sheath for a common path to ground. The dc breakdown voltage of the protector provides superior protection against transient surges, and yet is compatible with network-powered applications. They may also be used in 75-ohm receive systems up to 1.0 GHz. The protection element is designed to reset after each over-voltage event and the metallic housing of the coaxial lightning surge protectors provides necessary EMI shielding. When properly connected, DX Engineering Coaxial Lightning Surge Protectors are environmentally sealed (15 psi) to prevent the ingress of moisture and humidity encountered in broadband pedestals, vaults and stand-alone receive antenna applications. Full 360 degree Type F connectors provide superior RF performance and tighter connections.

DX Engineering Transceiver Amplifier Keying Cables

DX Engineering Transceiver Amplifier Keying Cables connect the "ground on transmit" or contact closure provided by the radio that is required to make an HF amplifier switch from "receive mode" to "transmit and amplify mode" when using PTT (push-to-talk), VOX or break-in CW keying. DX Engineering Transceiver Amplifier Keying Cables are made for specific transceiver models that have special DIN or mini-DIN connector accessory ports which provide the transceiver's only connections for linear amplifier keying. One type of amplifier keying cable has one RCA phono plug for the amplifier relay jack, which is all that is needed. When the transceiver PTT (push-to-talk) is keyed, the RCA plug center pin is connected to the shield (and chassis ground in most cases) to key the amp relay or its solid state keying circuit. Instead of a direct connection to the amp relay, the RCA plug may be connected to the keying input of an accessory device (DXE-KEYLINE-3, DXE-RTR-2 or DXE-NCC-2), amplifier keying interface (DXE-SV-KR or legacy Ameritron ARB-704 or KD9SV Products SV-KR) or other amp keying line interrupt device, such as a meter or an array controller. Each has a keying input and a keying output for the amplifier relay or another accessory. Another type of amplifier keying cable has two RCA phono plugs, one RED plug for the amplifier relay jack and one WHITE plug for ALC (Automatic Level Control) voltage from the amplifier. The legacy ALC connection does not need to be used with present era solid state transceivers and most modern amplifiers. ALC was required for use on transmitters with tube finals. Some modern amplifiers do not have an ALC output connector. If the amplifier does not have ALC it is okay to leave the WHITE plug disconnected. Order your DX Engineering Transceiver Amplifier Keying Cables to connect to your transceiver accessory port for keying amplifiers, sequencers, receive-transmit interfaces, buffer relays, and other accessories. NOTE: To enable the function of this keying cable, some late model Kenwood transceivers require menu activation of the amplifier keying circuit.
