DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 3 kW of RF power, DXE-LL450 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF. It is ideal for exceptionally long feedline runs and for low band wire antennas operated on multiple bands on which the feedpoint impedance can vary significantly, causing mismatch and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL450 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where antenna feedpoint impedance mismatches cause high SWR. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable when feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL450 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a high-quality flat RF feedline, about 0.938 in. wide (15/16") with two 16-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors (29 AWG x 19 strands) that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of around 400 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 91 percent. For proper performance, LL450 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL450 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, DXE-LL450 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-C4-1 4:1 Balun or a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax, not foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-213U or DXE-214 Coaxial Cable Assemblies 12 or 18 ft. with PL-259s are perfect for this method, which eliminates the need for a special balanced tuner, and avoids the losses and detuning effects caused by unbalancing when ladder line is routed indoors near wires and ducts. DXE-LL450 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL450-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL450-5C and 1,000 ft. DXE-LL450-1K, which are specified for DX Engineering Reversible Beverage System Antennas. NOTE: This type of feedline is intended for MF and HF use and is not suitable for use above 54 MHz. Also consider DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line, DXE-LL300, an excellent alternative low-loss HF feed line that reduces impedance extremes on non-resonant HF multiband antenna systems.

DX Engineering Premium Antenna Wire

DX Engineering Premium Antenna Wire helps you achieve top performance and long, trouble-free operation at a very reasonable cost. This PVC-insulated 14 AWG stranded copper wire is comprised of 19 strands of 27 AWG solid copper. Its relaxed PVC insulation is UV-resistant and rolls out easily, unlike wire that is commonly available at "big-box" stores, which coils and kinks. Our antenna wire is well worth its price for its features, especially for ease in handling. Over a decade of successful wire antenna installations have proven this insulated copper wire is up to the task. Conservatively rated at 92.5 lbs. breaking strength, this wire is strong enough for virtually every wire antenna application. Suggested installation includes supporting the feedpoint to properly handle the weight of the feedline, and balun if used, so that the wires only need to support themselves. When placed under extreme stress, this copper wire will stretch before breaking, allowing it to serve in a longer lasting installation for wire antennas of almost any style. Available in several pre-cut coiled lengths as well as on 500 and 1,000 ft. rolls, UV-resistant black insulated 14 AWG stranded copper DX Engineering Antenna Wire lasts longer than bare wire exposed to the elements. DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 2.5 kW of RF power, DXE-LL300 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF that is ideal for long feedline runs. It is an excellent feedline choice for a low band non-resonant wire antenna operated on multiple bands on which the impedance varies significantly, causing mismatches and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL300 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where impedance mismatches cause high SWR. The lower impedance of DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is actually better suited than 450 ohm ladder line for limiting the impedance extremes of non-resonant multiband antennas. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable for feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL300 Ladder Line is a flat, high-quality RF feedline, about 0.438 in. wide with two 18-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of 275 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 88 percent. For proper performance, LL300 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL300 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Most often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, dipoles, and inverted-vees, DXE-LL300 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax instead of foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-LL300 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL300-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL300-5C and 1,000 ft. DXE-LL300-1K. NOTE: This type of feedline is intended for MF and HF use and is not suitable for use above 30 MHz.

DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors

The DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors shown here include two-part, silver-plated PL-259 and Type-N connectors designed to be crimped or soldered to the shield and soldered to the center conductor. These connectors deliver excellent performance for HF, VHF, and UHF applications. DX Engineering's PL-259 and Type-N connectors feature silver-plated brass throughout the outer and inner conductors and use PTFE dielectric—the best RF insulator—for very low loss and high electrical breakdown strength. Also available are DX Engineering Silver-Plated Reducers, which adapt standard solder-type PL-259 and Type-N connectors for use with single-shield RG-8X and RG-58U coaxial cables. While many types and grades of coaxial RF connectors are offered on the market, DX Engineering provides only top-quality connectors with silver-plated brass bodies and PTFE dielectric. These two-part solder-style connectors fit RG-213, RG-8U, RG-8X/LMR240 and other standard 0.405 in. single-braid shield coaxial cables intended for soldering*—but not 400MAX or LMR-400 double-shield cables. These solder-shield and solder-center connectors are the preferred choice for many Amateur Radio operators installing single-braid shield coaxial cables. Order your DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors and Reducers today! *NOTE: To prevent noise issues, modern engineering practice has determined that double shield cables that have one foil and one braid should not be soldered to the braid, including DXE-400MAX and LMR-400 style cables. Those cables should be terminated with crimp shield or clamp shield style connectors, also available from DX Engineering.
